HELP OUR SISTER CITY IN MATANZAS
When our neighbor’s house is on fire the normal human reaction is to rush next door and help!
On Friday, August 5th, a major oil storage facility in Matanzas, Cuba, was hit by lightning. Since then, an enormous fire has been raging. Many have been injured and killed with over 4,000 evacuated from their homes. This tragedy has affected their electricity grid and health facilities which already suffer due to the U.S. Blockade.
Mexico, Venezuela, and several other countries have promptly sent assistance but….The U.S. Embargo fuels the fires that rage in Cuba! U.S. sanctions make it difficult for Cuba to get fire suppressing materials and equipment – AND to receive Critical aid. The US designation of Cuba as a Terrorist Nation means that banks across the world are restricted from processing humanitarian donations.
This tragedy offers the USA an opportunity to correct a wrong 60 years in the making by demonstrating that we are a kind and compassionate nation capable of responding above petty politics. The United States must demonstrate it is a good neighbor and lift the 243 sanctions that prevents sending aid!
We the citizens of this country MUST DEMAND that Cuba be removed from the State Terrorism List.
Biden CAN DO THIS WITH A STROKE OF HIS PEN and begin to send material aid to the island.
What Can You Do To Help?
Contact the White House Switchboard by calling 202-456-1111 and demand that the US Government remove Cuba from the list of terrorist nations so that international humanitarian aid can be expedited and remove all impediments to sending food, medical supplies and emergency response materials and equipment.
The Pittsburgh-Matanzas Sister Cities Partnership will be organizing aid from Pittsburgh.
